The essay should be well written and make a strong case for a particular topic. But because there are so many different topics in the course, the topic should not be too vague or too specific.
There is a main problem with creating an essay on any topic. You need to know what you are writing about, otherwise you have no idea how to present your ideas. If you write about something that you don't understand, it will be difficult to discuss it. The best way to start a topic is to write about what interests you. Of course, this does not mean that you need to provide a paragraph of lengthy descriptive prose, but it does mean that you can spend some time defining your topic before you turn to the writing part. Most students don't have a lot of different topics to choose from, so they are stuck with a few topics to write about. One way to narrow down the topics is to look at a friend's work. It is not hard to come up with ways to use a friend's work to create a discussion on an interesting topic. Another way to narrow down your topic is to read a few textbooks. Although this will take more time, it is also an excellent way to find out what types of topics a class is studying. And if your instructor offers group study, take the opportunity to read the textbook together with the rest of the class. Once you have chosen a topic, another important part of the essay is the introduction. Writing a good introduction is just as important as the rest of the essay. You want to not only introduce the topic, but you want to do this in such a way that your readers get interested in the topic and interested in what you have to say. Make sure to write a clear and concise introduction to your essay. As soon as you have a topic, it is easy to write an introduction that covers the basics of the topic. But when the class starts discussing the topic, make sure that you give an overview of what the topic is about, where it is going, and what kind of information is being covered. Don't assume that the readers of your essay will understand your argument to the basic level of the course. Most classes have much more advanced material than they do introductory material. You need to be able to write a well-written introduction to an essay to explain your main points.
